<p>A testimonial is a favorable review by a customer requested by the company. It is controlled by the company &#8211; it can be ditched if wrong, it can be selectively edited or pushed to the bottom.  </p>

<p>A very old-fashioned term that some may think has been replaced by online &#8220;Reviews&#8221; and &#8220;Likes&#8221;. But testimonials are still relevant and used by many companies.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Difference to Customer Reviews</h2>



<p>While Testimonials are controlled by the company, customer reviews appear on third-party sites such as Facebook, Linkedin, Tripadvisor, and Employment Sites, and the company has little control over the reviews. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What&#8217;s in a name</h2>



<p>For companies with a long history, using the word &#8220;Testimonials&#8221; on their website is part of their image of long history and stability.  For others, another word might be preferable such as &#8220;Customer Reviews&#8221; or &#8220;Customer Comments&#8221;.   One company even called them &#8220;Love Letters from our Customers.&#8221;  It depends on the company&#8217;s style. </p>

<p>The benefits of testimonials, if implemented correctly, are:</p>



<ol><li>Assist in establishing trust with the customer.</li><li>Helps customers in their decision.</li><li>The customer can see the product will be successful for them.</li><li>The customer knows the benefits and pitfalls of the product.</li></ol>

<p>There are a number of Reputation Management Platforms that can help a company control Testimonials as well as Customer Reviews.  </p>
